Update on discovery of a man's body in Jesmond
Police say they are not treating the death of a man in his 50's as suspicious
Police, investigating the discovery of a man's body in Jesmond, say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
Officers were called out to a field in the Highbury area, early this morning, after being alerted by the ambulance service.
Emergency services attended but sadly the man – aged in his 50s – was confirmed to be deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.
An investigation was immediately launched, but following a range of enquiries carried out throughout today, police can confirm they do not believe the man’s death to be suspicious.
A report will now be made for the coroner.
Detective Chief Inspector Angela Hudson, of Northumbria Police, said: “First and foremost our thoughts remain with the man’s family at what is an absolutely devastating time for them.
“I would ask that their privacy is respected as they attempt to come to terms with the events of the last 24 hours.
“A full investigation was launched as we looked to build a clearer picture as to the circumstances surrounding his death. As a result of those enquiries, we are satisfied that there was no third party involvement and we are not treating his death as suspicious.
“I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation and patience as we carried out our enquiries. It is very much appreciated.”
