Today's Sunday Concert with Jason Donovan in Brents Park has been called off because of safety fears.

Organisers say the free event has been cancelled because of the forecasted wind gusts which would make it difficult for the organisers to safely put on the event.

In a Tweet, Jason said he's 'gutted'.

He added: "We've unfortunately been informed that my show at South Tyneside Festival can't go ahead because of the weather forecast.

"I am gutted not to be able to play the show, audiences in the North East are always the very best.

"Stay safe and watch this space.

In a statement, organisers behind the South Tyneside Festival said: "It is with great regret that we have had to take a difficult decision to cancel tomorrow's Sunday Concert in Bents Park for safety reasons.

"This is due to the forecasted wind gusts having implications on being able to deliver the event in a safe manner.

"Discussions are currently taking place for a possible reschedule and/or refunds. Information regarding this will be provided as soon as possible. Please keep checking our social media channels for information."
