Police in Newcastle have launched an investigation after a man was injured in a hit and run.

At around 3.40pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) a 20-year-old man was walking on Yewcroft Avenue in the Scotswood area of Newcastle.

He was alone on the street when a black Citreon C2 mounted the pavement and deliverately knocked him over. Luckily the victim was not seriously injured.

The vehicle then left the scene before it was found abandoned a few minutes later a short distance away on Armstrong Road.

Witnesses have reported seeing two men and a woman fleeing the scene on foot in the direction of Denton Road.

An investigation has been launched to identify two men and a woman who were believed to be in the vehicle but detectives on the case are now appealing for help from the public.

They particularly want to speak to anyone who saw the car in question in the Scotswood area yesterday afternoon to get in touch.
