Investigation launched after man dies in suspected assault in North Shields
Northumbria Police confirmed the man died 'several days' after the incident which happened earlier this week
Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after the death of a 45-year-old man in North Shields earlier this week.
Yesterday (March 11) the force confirmed they were looking into the incident after it happened in Clifton Gardens at 11.40pm on Tuesday.
At the scene, emergency services found a 45-year-old who had suffered a head injury, and was then taken to hospital, where he received medical treatment.
In what police call 'several days later', he then died in hospital.
Investigations continue into what is a suspected assault.
In a statement on Twitter, the force said: "An investigation was launched and a 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail.
"Our thoughts are very much with the victim’s family at this awful time.
"We would ask that if you did see something or have information in relation to what has happened, and have not yet spoken to us, please come forward
