Hit the North Festival reveals opening party acts!
Hot on the heels of the confirmation that Hit the North Festival will return to Newcastle in 2019, organisers have today announced that both Metronomy and Sundara Karma will perform at the event's official opening party ceremony next May.
Taking place on Friday 3rd May to mark the launch of a full weekend of live music in Newcastle, the region's largest inner-city festival of its kind is delighted to reveal that two of the UK's most revered indie new-wave outfits will be kickstarting proceedings in style.
Led by the enigmatic founder and frontman, Joseph Mount, Metronomy, famed for their high octane live shows and unique blend of indie pop and nu-disco, will perform at Boiler Shop in Newcastle as part of the opening event.
Meanwhile, Reading's indie art rockers Sundara Karma will take to the o2 Academy Newcastle on the same evening in a joint event that is set to provide the perfect introduction to the eagerly anticipated return of the Hit the North.
Organised by the celebrated events company SSD Concerts, the opening parties will also feature a string of soon to be announced special guests and further special live music pop up gatherings throughout the city.
Speaking about today's announcement, SSD Concerts' Steve Davis, said: “The 2019 edition of Hit the North is going to be our biggest and best yet and this latest announcement is just one of the ways we're going to make this a big step on last year's festival.
“We're massive fans of both of these acts and we know they're going to kick the party off in style.
“But we're not done yet. Stay tuned for yet more announcements and more heavyweight acts coming your way.”
Jake Bugg, Tom Grennan, The Blinders, Catherine McGrath, Blaenavon and Dylan Cartlidge have been confirmed as the first wave of heavyweight acts that are set to perform next year's Hit the North Festival in Newcastle.
Building on the success of the last two years, the North East's largest inner city live music event is back once again in what has been billed by promoters as its most diverse and ambitious lineup to date.
