High winds batter the North East

Everyone across the North East will be a little more sluggish this morning.....

That's due to the winds of up to 70 miles an hour battering us last night.

We're told of power cuts in parts of DH7 and Newcastle, chimney's being made safe by out fire fighters and, as the picture shows above, a property in Pelton, Country Durham looks to have lost some of its roof which has come down and crushed a car.

Parts of the roof from the old co-op (where the Gate is and all the new restaurants are) on Newgate Street has come off - police have closed off the road.

Keep up to date with any incidents and traffic and travel information on our Twitter - and if you've seen something that we haven't get in touch like John has:

And the message from the police - please drive carefully out there!

Fencing down in Stanley.

And a tree down in Benton near the Metro Station.
