High-tech Toys In Demand This Christmas

Published 16th Nov 2015

High-tech toys are more and more in demand in the run-up to Christmas each year, and it seems drones are the must have gadget on the lists of many kids (and big-kids) this year.

It’s a far cry from a few years ago, back in 2010 the top toys included the usual mix of board games, dolls and construction games.

Now in 2015, the list is filled with remote control gizmos, hoverboards and personal computers. Even the cuddly toys on the list are filled with computers and internet connections. So we’ve been giving these drones a go, to see just what all the fuss is about.

We had a go with the Arcade Orbit Cam Drone. It’s aimed at over 12s and avoids the eye-wateringly high prices of some of the other toys on the market.

It’s easy to fly and pretty hard to crash, as it’s gyroscopically stabilised to hover in place. Even when you do inevitably have a little accident, the flexible construction and well-protected propeller blades mean you shouldn’t do too much damage to the drone or your surroundings.

One of the highlights of the Arcade Orbit Cam Drone is the on-board camera. Controlled from the remote, you can take pictures and record videos of your flight to share with all your friends and get a great birds eye view of what’s going on around your flightpath.

Well it all comes as the annual lists of top toys are released. Some of those topping the list this year include an interactive Tracey Island, a remote controlled Elsa from Frozen and a tablet designed just for youngsters.

With all those goodies available, it’s clear to see why our kids might be going high-tech with their Christmas lists.
