The happiest place to live in the North East has been revealed

According to a recent survey by property website Rightmove, Gateshead has been rated as the happiest place in the North East of England.

Gateshead placed the highest in the survey ahead of Darlington and Newcastle who placed in 2nd and 3rd. The full regional ranking can be found below:

  1. Gateshead 2. Darlington 3. Newcastle Upon Tyne 4. Stockton-On-Tees 5. Sunderland

Almost 24,000 people took part in the survey which asked residents about 12 factors in their local area.

These factors included how friendly their neighbours are to how good the local services are, the full list is included below.

Arts and culture 9. Opportunities to develop skills 10. Nature and green spaces 11. Essential local services e.g. doctors, schools 12. Non-essential amenities e.g. restaurants, pubs

The survey also ranked our North East places nationally, again Gateshead was ranked the highest at number 40.
