Gun phone case under fire
Police are warning the latest trend of phone cases could get you arrested!
Itās after we investigated online and found this black phone case shaped like a gun for just 15p.
Northumbria Police havenāt had any reports of the particular phone cases but say carrying an imitation firearm like this is an offence.
Chief Inspector George Maratty, head of the Firearms Support Unit (FSU), said:
"People may not think they are doing anything wrong but the implications of carrying an imitation firearm can be serious, even if you consider it to be nothing more than a toy or a phone case.
"If we receive such a report then it will generate a police response. This can cause distress to other members of the public and lead to an unnecessary drain on our police resources."
Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird said:
āHow are you going to answer your phone? Youāre going to pull a gun out of your back pocket in a public place with your finger on the trigger because thatās the natural way of handling it. That could be very scary and get you in a lot of trouble. Just leave them on the shop shelves.ā
āIf the police believe that there would be someone who might have a real gun in the middle of Newcastle city then they would respond very powerfully indeed, somebody could get hurt, people will be frightened and it will be a huge expense to the public that all those resources are called out.ā
