PARKING

There is no official event parking at the start line, and drivers are encouraged to use the park and ride Metro services at Callerton Parkway, Bank Foot, Kingston Park, Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends, Northumberland Park, Heworth, Walkergate, Fellgate, East Boldon and Stadium of Light.

Parking will be available at the finish at South Shields, on The Leas, which is open from 6:15am on Sunday 10th September.

After 8:00am on the event day, the Dragon Car Parking will be open but with limited capacity.

Drivers are advised to avoid parking in South Shields Town Centre, due to road closures and the high number of people in town, which is likely to cause delays.

We are also advised not to follow Sat Nav directions when approaching South Shields - but follow diversionary signs which will be in place.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Bus

Start - The closest bus stations to the Start Line are at Haymarket and Eldon Square

Finish - Buses will operate from Bents Park in South Shields - near the finish line - until approximately 16:00 on Sunday 10th

Metro

Start - The nearest Metro station to the start line is at Haymarket

Finish - The closest station to the finish line will be South Shields Metro Station

People are reminded there will be much higher levels of people using the Metro on Sunday 10th and to expect delays - especially at the Finish Line.

Runners and spectators can still buy their travel in advance by getting a £6 Great North Run Rover from their nearest Metro station, as well as on the day itself.

They are available now from any Metro ticket machine for £6 and are valid all day on Sunday 10 September, providing travel in all Metro zones, all local buses including special race shuttles, the Shields Ferry and Northern Rail trains between Newcastle and Sunderland.

The wristband version which was available to order from Nexus online has now sold out, but ticket versions can still be bought from machines and Metro Stations.
