A girl was rescued from the coast of Whitley Bay over the weekend, over what one shop owner is calling an 'incredible act of heroism' during Whitley Bay Carnival.

The incident was reported by the shop, Northerly Swell, who say became the 'centre of attention' during an incident of drowning on Saturday afternoon (May 27).

Two men quickly rushed to her rescue, with Mark and Noah from the shop heading to the shore where they assisted with her rescue, carrying her back on dry land.

On the shore, the shop say a woman - who presented as a nurse - started CPR, whilst another nurse joined with helping to save her life.

Nick Graham, a Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) instructor from the Northerly Swell shop, alerted the local lifeguards who then gave her oxygen.

Paramedics finally arrived at the scene, and she was helped up to the ambulance by paddleboard.

In a statement by the shop, they said: "The extraordinary bravery and rapid response demonstrated by the first nurse on the scene played a pivotal role in saving the young girl's life.

"This incident brought to light the selfless acts of both husband and wife, as well as the commendable efforts of everyone involved.

"In recognition of their heroism, the individuals involved were provided with warm hoodies from Northerly Swell and enjoyed hot beverages courtesy of De Meo's Ice Cream.

"This incident showcased the remarkable willingness of both the public and emergency services to spring into action during a time of crisis. Thanks to their collective efforts, the life of the young girl was saved, and her friends, who were treated for shock, were spared potential tragedy."

If you see anyone in distress on the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
