The festival platform which helped launch the likes of Sam Fender and Nadine Shah will be returning to Newcastle's Boiler Shop this summer - with a brand new line up of all North East talent.

Generator Live has provided a platform for hundreds of emerging and fringe artists and will be back in the city on the 25th of June.

Alongside the already announced Venus Grrrls, Sagaboi, bigfatbig, John Dole and Lovely Assistant will be alt-pop storyteller Ruth Lyon, Newcastle rapper Kay Greyson, electropunk juggernaut Straight Girl, ethereal vocalist Jodie Nicholson and the critically acclaimed Kema Kay.

But the previously announced headline artist Du Blonde was forced to pull out of the festival over health concerns.

The festival say they hope to welcome them back to a future line up.

Generator’s new CEO Mick Ross explains why this new direction for the festival creates a new opportunity and focus for Generator and the North East’s music scene;

“Generator have been providing opportunities for the incredible talent we have in the region for over 30 years and we’re continually striving for better representation, opportunity and change in our industry for the thousands of talented artists and creatives who call the North East home.

"Whilst I’m over the moon that our spiritual home in the Ouseburn will still feature as part of our incredible festival fringe, the opportunity to bring a stage full of North East talent to the iconic surroundings of the city centre’s Boiler Shop is one both my team and our amazing artists will no doubt relish.”

Generator say it's important to them to champion diversity, committing to include at least 50% women and under-represented genders in their programming and staffing.
