On December 10, 2015, Tyrone Quinn, who is 20 and from Hewitson Terrace in Felling, approached and punched a 77-year-old man in an unprovoked attack in Fife Street in Gateshead. He appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates Court on May 24 where he was sentenced to sixteen weeks imprisonment. Quinn had previously failed to appear at the Magistrates Court in connection with the offence and had been wanted on warrant. Gateshead Inspector Mick Robson said: "This was a cowardly and unprovoked attack by Quinn on an elderly gentleman and once he failed to appear at court it was down to the determination and hard work of our officers that he was arrested and eventually forced to face justice. "It should send a clear message out to all criminals that they can not commit offences and expect to get away with it. We will not allow people to think they are above the law and that if they fail to turn up at court then we will track them down and they will face up to what they have done."
