Gateshead man attacked with "chemicals"

It happened on 14th May on Helmsdale Avenue.

Police are appealing for witnesses after after an assault in Gateshead. Between 6:30pm and 7pm on Saturday, May 14, a 57-year-old man was walking in Helmsdale Avenue when he was approached by a man who shouted at him and squirted a liquid into his face before running off. The victim was taken to the RVI for treatment to chemical burn injuries to his face and remains in hosptial. The attacker is described as being white, around 5ft 6ins tall and with dark spikey hair. He was wearing black shorts and no top. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1270 15/05/16.
