Five arrested after mass brawl in Newcastle

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fight in Newcastle.

At 2:45pm on Monday, February 8, police received a report of a group of around four or five men fighting with hammers and other weapons near to the Iceland supermarket in Stanhope Street, Arthurs Hill.

Two vehicles, believed to be a grey VW golf and a silver Citroen Xsara, were also involved in the incident, with the Citroen Xsara being used to knock one of the men over.

One of the men involved in the fight suffered a broken collar bone and received hospital treatment. No one else was seriously injured during the incident.

Five men have been arrested in connection with the attack. Three have been charged with offences and two released on police bail.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone who was in the area and who saw the fight is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 614 08/02/16.
