The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service say every second really counts - and inconsiderate parking can put rescue teams at risk of not getting there in time.
Wirth the start of the school year tomorrow for many across the North East and Tyneside, they’re urging parents to think twice before stopping outside the school gates.
Crews worked with North Tyneside Council for a mock exercise at the end of last year, highlighting the issue of congested roads.
In a post on social media earlier this week, officers said: "Considerate parking can save lives.
"With most schools across Tyne & Wear reopening next week after the festive break it’s the perfect time to remind people about the importance of parking sensibly near to school buildings.
Towards the end of last year alongside North Tyneside Council we did a mock 999 exercise along a congested road in Longbenton, North Tyneside.
"It was filmed during a busy afternoon school run - our photographs highlight just how seriously the issue is outside of our schools.
"The photos highlight how difficult it can be for emergency vehicles to get through the traffic as every second count.
"Not only that but a young person could step out in to the road and not be seen causing a potentially fatal accident.
"Please be a considerate road user."
