Financial hacks that could transform your 2016

Published 5th Feb 2016

A new infographic has been designed to help the UK keep on top of their finances throughout 2016. With January now out of the way, many households across the country will be relaxing on their saving regimes after making it through the post-festive season.

However, with a new report stating that one in four people in our region “live for the day” financially, and don’t seek advice until they reach crisis point, it’s important that we all keep an eye on our bank balances.

Using tips and research from sources including the Money Advice Service, Ofgem and the Citizens Advice Bureau, the infographic features advice on how to save money in six different areas of your life. From tips on how to shop smarter, to hints on how to save around the household, there are plenty of ideas included that can help save a few pounds from any lifestyle.

Take a look at five money saving hacks featured in the graphic below…

  • Switch your supplier: The average household can save £200 per year by switching their gas and electricity!
  • Get online: If you don’t have online banking, get it and download the app. This is immensely helpful for tracking what your spending.
  • Declutter and sell: Anything that you don’t want could be sold at a car boot sale, on eBay or via social media. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
  • Take it slow: When driving, dropping from 80mph to 70mph could save you up to 25% in fuel.
  • Lose that FOMO: Drop that fear of missing out (FOMO) attitude and say no to a social engagement just once a month. If you save £30 each time, that’s £360 a year!
