Two men have been charged in connection with an altercation that resulted in a pedestrian being hit by a car in Ferryhill.

Durham Police were alerted to a fight taking place between multiple people on Faraday Street in Ferryhill at around 2:45pm on Thursday (December 19th).

Following the fight, a 50-year-old was struck by a black Renault Megane, as officers reached the scene.

Emergency services attended the area, giving immediate medical attention to the 50-year-old before taking him from the roadside to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

According to the force, the man currently remains in hospital with his condition being described as "serious".

Following their investigations, police arrested a 35-year-old man from Spennymore at the scene.

He has since been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, driving with no insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Similarly, a second man aged 27 from Shildon, was charged with affray following the altercation.

Both men were remanded in custody and will appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Saturday (December 21st).

As well as this, two women - aged 30 and 33 - and a 35-year-old man were also arrested, but have since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
