Newcastle council say they're aware of concerns being raised about the wooden fencing which has been mysteriously erected outside the East Stand of St James' Park.

The council say concerns have been raised by a number of Newcastle United supporters, and the NUFC Trust.

A statement, posted on X, says;

"We are aware of the fence that has been erected outside the East Stand at St James' Park.

"This is subject to an ongoing civil dispute but we understand concerns from fans about it being a health and safety risk ahead of this weekend's match.

"The fence has been erected on private land, not associated with Newcastle United, and follows other reports of objects being placed on this stretch of land.

"The council were not contacted by the landowner in advance of the fence being erected.

They also say they will work with Northumbria Police and the club ahead of Sunday's home game.

The issue was also raised by Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah, who is a Newcastle fan herself, as well as several other groups.
