The family of a man with “a heart of gold” who sadly died in a collision in Newcastle last year have paid a heartfelt tribute to him.

At around 1.45pm on Friday, January 28, 2022, officers received a report of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Walker Road in Byker.

Emergency services attended but sadly the male rider of the motorcycle – who was later named as John Bourne, 21, of Walker – was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following an inquest into John’s death which was held in Newcastle at the end of last month, the coroner concluded that he had died from injuries following a road traffic collision.

His family have today (Monday) paid a heartfelt tribute to him. They said: “John Bourne – 13.11.2000 to 28.01.2022 – a much-loved son and brother.

“We are devastated that he is no longer here with us.

“To this day, he is loved and missed by all of his family and friends.

“John had a heart of gold that will shine down on our lives every day – there is such a big hole in our family since his passing. He will never be forgotten.”

Police Constable Sandra Belisle, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said: “Any death on our roads is a tragedy, but it is especially poignant when it involves somebody so young who had their full life ahead of them.

“Our thoughts remain with John’s family and loved ones, and we will continue to offer them any support they need.”

A full investigation was launched into the collision and was later referred to the coroner.
