The flatmate of a murdered woman from Bensham says she hopes a new event will raise awareness of the dangers of stalking.

Alice Ruggles was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in October 2016 - a charity has since been set up in her name.

The Alice Ruggles Trust family fun day will be taking place on June 24th in Hebburn.

Her flatmate Maxine McGill has been to speaking us, and says she hopes the event will mean that what happened to Alice won't happen to anybody else.

"Alice was sadly murdered due to stalking and harassment and as a trust, we want to raise awareness around the danger sings and what steps people can follow to get help before the circumstances turn out as catastrophic as Alice's.

"It's putting a positive spin on making a difference in the name of Alice.

"There's nothing that can change what happened to Alice, and from my own circumstance, I really struggled and that pro-activeness really helped me deal with that initial grief and shock."
