Should Energy Drinks Be Banned From Schools?
A North Tyneside School say banning energy drinks has improved behaviour.
Since Burnside Business and Enterprise College in Wallsend banned energy drinks last year, they’ve seen an improvement in pupils’ behaviour.
Originally children were stopped from drinking them in school because of health concerns, but attendance is up and the number of detentions has dropped.
Assistant Head Rosalind Elliot said; “We know that standards of teaching and learning have dramatically risen.
“We do know that concentration levels of students has improved, and high energy drinks and banning them must have had some influence on that.”
A South Shields teenager told us she hid drinks in them in her school bags and ended up skipping meals.
Georgia Fairlamb said it actually made her more tired; “My heart rate started going, and I realised I was getting more headaches.
“I was hyper for a while and then your concentration levels just go.”
