Durham Safety Patrol After River Deaths

Published 25th Feb 2015

Students in Durham will be out patrolling the streets to keep each other safe as part of a new volunteering scheme launched by the City Safety Group.

The move comes after the deaths of three students in the river over the last 15 months, which promted calls for action to be taken to keep people safe.

The 50 volunteers taking part in the pilot scheme, which starts tonight, are all trained in life-saving, personal safety and how to deal with water emergencies.
