Prince Charles arrived by train in Durham this morning.

Prince Charles has been in County Durham for the day, meeting schoolchildren at Durham University, emergency service workers at a new station and attend a concert at Durham Cathedral.

His Royal Highness also joined a minute's silence at Durham Cathedral in tribute to 20-year-old Durham University student Olivia Burt, who died outside a nightclub in the city last week.

He also opened a new £10 million exhibit at the Cathedral, called Open Treasure.

The exhibit's curator, Marie-Therese Mayne, said: "It was very difficult to keep his visit secret because we were all very excited and wanted to share the news, but we weren't allowed to until the last minute.

"Now we are able to shout about it, the staff, volunteers and visitors are all very much looking forward to it."
