Doorman Hurt In Newcastle Drive-by Shooting

A Newcastle doorman has been shot outside a city centre nightclub in a drive-by shooting. The 24-year-old was injured when a person on a motorbike shot him outside Tup Tup Palace nightclub in Saint Nicholas Street. He was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident at 10.30pm last night (Sun 6th June). Police said the extent of the victim's injuries are not known at this stage and enquiries are being carried out to trace the motorbike. A cordon was put in place by police and extra officers were drafted into the area. Superintendent Chris Sharman from Northumbria Police said: "We know incidents like this cause concern and I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to trace the person responsible for this incident. "Extra officers are in the city centre to help keep disruption to a minimum and offer reassurance to those who are in the city centre. "If anyone has any information about this incident we would urge them to come forward and speak to us."
