County Durham mum terrorised by banana filled with spiders

A mum from County Durham has had a lucky escape - after she was terrorised - by her banana!
Gemma Price from Stanley had to flee her home for three days with her 7 month old son when the spiders were let loose.
Gemma peeled a Costa Rican banana from Asda at her home when suddenly a tiny white egg sac stuck to the skin burst apart releasing a cluster of spiders.
They couldn't be identified as dangerous or not - but it was feared they were tropical...
Gemma told us they rapidly swarmed over her hands and down her legs as she screamed and dropped the bananas to the floor.
The banana originally came from Asda - which is investigating the issue.
An ASDA spokesperson told us.... “We sell around one billion bananas every year and each and every one is washed, sprayed and manually checked for quality and stowaways before being transported to the UK. Incidents like these are extremely rare, but we understand how upsetting it must have been for Ms Price and we are in contact with her to find a resolution. We'd like to reassure all our customers that the chance of finding a spider is incredibly low and it’s even less likely that a tropical spider could survive outside of their warm climate."
