The sights and sounds of the 1990s are set to return to Newcastle Bank Holiday as the UK's number one Britpop band take to the stage at The Holy Hobo in Jesmond.

Taking place at the newly re-launched live music venue on Sunday 26th August – located on the site of the old Mr Lynch - the five-piece Britpop tribute, The National Anthems, will headline and host a FREE live indie spectacular featuring some of the celebrated decade's most famous groups including The Verve, Pulp, Oasis and Blur.

Following the group's debut sell-out debut tour around the UK – which has seen them take to the stage alongside 90s stars including the likes of Tom Hingley of Inspiral Carpets and the legendary Liverpool band, The Farm – The National Anthems will now turn their attention to an intimate Newcastle date in honour of their home crowd for an evening of high octane 90s nostalgia.

The band, who recently put pen to paper with a national agency to oversee their major national dates in the next 12 months, have said they want to perform a special show for their fellow Geordies before turning their attention to hitting the festival circuit throughout the autumn and winter.

Speaking about the forthcoming show, National Anthems guitarist, David Welsh, formerly of the celebrated Newcastle band Detroit Social Club - who were the last band to support rock 'n' roll icons Oasis before they broke up in 2009 - said:

“We can’t wait for this one. It's a free show in our hometown, it's on a Bank Holiday Weekend, and people have the whole of the next day to recover. What more could 90s indie fans ask for?

“Since forming the band last year we've loved every minute and it's been amazing to play songs that people hold so dear. A lot of the songs we do are the soundtracks to people's lives and it feels amazing to see them go wild with their friends.

“There's nothing like coming home though and people in the North East know how to party. Stick the date in your calendar and we’ll see you at the front!”

Based on Tyneside, The National Anthems are made up of a collective of Newcastle based musicians who have created a new dedicated band to represent an era of music which has witnessed a wave of nostalgia in recent times.

Taking their musical cues from the likes of 90s legendary acts such as Oasis, Blur, Pulp The Stone Roses and The Verve, The National Anthems have made it their mission to produce an authentic and electrifying Britpop infused experience like no other.

The band will be on stage from 9 pm this coming Sunday 26th at Holy Hobo Jesmond and for more information head over to the Facebook event page here:
