#Byker - Woman arrested after suspected firearm incident
Police appealing for witnesses on Shields Road.
Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Byker.
At 2:17pm on Wednesday (March 30th) a man approached a car in Shields Road, outside of the Raby pub, and smashed a window of the vehicle.
The male driver of the car and female passenger (who was wearing pyjamas) got out of the car and chased the man in the direction of Heaton Place.
Officers responded and arrested an 18-year-old woman in connection with the incident. She is currently in custody and helping with enquiries.
Witnesses told police that they believed the man who was driving the vehicle may have been in possession of a small firearm of some kind. Enquiries are ongoing to confirm this.
It is believed that those involved in this incident are known to each other and officers do not consider there to be a risk to the wider public.
Extra officers have been in the area this evening speaking to local residents and carrying out house to house enquiries.
