Blyth Woman In 'Living Hell' After Third Cancer Diagnosis
A Northumberland woman who had a double mastectomy says a new test to see if breast cancer may spread to other parts of the body could make a big difference.
Kristina Trewick from Blyth was diagnosed with breast cancer twice and says she's re-living her nightmare now that she has been told it has spread to her lungs and liver.
She's sharing her story during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It's as researchers in London found the disease was three times more likely to spread in women with a certain active gene.
It could help doctors plan better treatment for women with aggressive and deadly forms of cancer.
Kristina says early testing like this could make a big difference, but having the options for treatment is more important.
"I think it's an absolutely fantastic advance forward, if there are things in place which help take it down to the smallest possibility of it travelling to a different organ. As opposed to me at the minute where I've got it in both my lungs and my liver."
"I just wish there was something in place that provides some sort of checking of your body, so you could see what was going on, but can you imagine the financial implications? That's not just breast cancer, its any secondary cancer."
