Promises for more investment into wind power in Northumberland
The Government say the world's most advanced wind turbine testing facility will be in Blyth
The Government is promising a share of 86 million pounds of Wind Power funding will arrive in Northumberland.
They say the world's most advanced wind turbine testing facility is going to be built in Blyth.
According to Andrew Griffith, the Science, Research and Innovation Minister, this will be part of part of an £86 million investment in wind power that will create growth while slashing carbon emissions.
The new Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult facility will test and certify 150m-long turbines blades, with the capacity to expand to test 180m-long blades in the future, meaning it will be able to verify the world's longest blades.
The site will also test the latest drive-train technology, enabling manufacturers to develop and improve their products more quickly.
Mr Griffith said: "Pioneering innovation is the key to safeguarding the environment we live in while maintaining a high quality of life and remaining unashamedly open for business.
"Our £86m funding will create highly skilled and highly paid new jobs that grow the north-east and wider UK economies.
"It will also bring in investment by marking our country as a leader in technologies of the future as well as a global capital for wind power.
"At the same time this innovation will strengthen the UK's energy security in an uncertain world and help us pivot towards the cleaner energy that can preserve our planet for generations to come."
