Officers searching for wanted man Paul Johnson are appealing to the public for information.

Police are looking to locate Johnson, 54, and speak to him in connection with the death of North Shield’s man Trevor Bishop.

Shortly before 11.40pm on March 7, police received a report of concern for a man inside of an address on Clifton Gardens.

Emergency services attended the scene and found 45-year-old Trevor who had suffered a head injury.

He was taken to hospital but sadly passed away.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Trevor’s death and has since been released on police bail.

Meanwhile, a further two people, a 45-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both suspects have also been released on police bail.

Now, as part of their enquiries, officers have identified Johnson, of North Shields - who has links to the Meadow Well – as a key individual who they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

It is understood that Johnson knows he is wanted and is actively evading arrest.

Extensive searches are ongoing at a number of associated addresses across the Force in a bid to locate him and ensure he is arrested as soon as possible.

Officers are now asking the public to come forward if they have seen Johnson or know where he may be residing.

Detective Inspector Tomasz Fowler of Northumbria Police said:

Our thoughts remain with Trevor’s family at this devastating time and we will continue to offer them any support they need.

His family deserve to know exactly what happened and that’s why it is imperative that we locate Johnson as soon as possible.”

He added:

Please take a close look at his image – if you think you have seen him or know where he may be, please get in touch with us immediately.

Johnson may be using friends or associates in a bid to lay low. It is a criminal offence to harbour a wanted fugitive and we don’t want anyone to get in trouble on his behalf.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page on their website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20230307-1255.
