Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted inside a Newcastle newsagents.
At about 8.10pm on Friday (June 11) police received a report that a male had been injured on Adelaide Terrace in the Elswick area of the city.
It was reported that a 17-year-old boy had been approached inside the Drinks Express shop on the street and assaulted with a bladed weapon.
The man responsible has then left the shop and got into a dark coloured car with three other males and left the scene.
Officers attended the scene and spoke to the victim but he was unable to provide any details and was taken to hospital by paramedics with minor injuries.
An investigation has been launched to identify those involved and a 23-year-old man has already been arrested in connection with the alleged attack.
Now detectives at Northumbria Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who saw the suspect leaving the scene, to get in touch.
Detective Constable Stuart Renton said:
“This incident has taken place inside a shop and in front of a number of shocked onlookers.
“Thankfully the victim did not suffer serious injuries and we have since been able to arrest a 23-year-old man in connection with this assault.
“Our early enquiries have established that whoever was responsible for the assault has left the scene in a dark coloured vehicle in the company of a number of other males.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, who knows the owner of this vehicle or who knows who has been involved is asked to contact us immediately.”
