Alnwick Selfie Addict Warns Of Image Crisis

A Northumberland man who was so addicted to selfies it led him to take an overdose - is helping others avoid the same fate.

Danny Bowman from Alnwick was diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder and says he doesn't want others to go through what he did.

Danny told Metro Radio trying to look perfect meant he ended up taking hundreds of selfies each day.

He now works with fixers - a charity which helps young people over-come various issues.

Danny said social media and the 'selfie' generation is leading to poor self esteem and body image problems.

"Judging from my own experience and also other people who have come forward to me, their self esteem is at rock bottom. For starters on things like Facebook the whole thing is your trying to put the best possible life on there. All these filters and all this it has a huge effect."
