Alnwick Castle unveils a summer of outdoor cinema, book lauches and theatre.

Alnwick Castle, Northumberland’s iconic visitor attraction, is thrilled to announce the latest exciting events to be added to its 2023 summer season.

From captivating outdoor theatre performances by the acclaimed Three Inch Fools to book launches and a magical outdoor cinema experience with The Luna Cinema, Alnwick Castle is delighted to be offering an unforgettable summer for locals and visitors alike.

The Three Inch Fools, known for their innovative and fast-paced approach to theatre, are returning to Alnwick Castle on June 30, 2023. Their rendition of Shakespeare's comedic masterpiece, "As You Like It," promises to delight audiences with endless costume changes and hilarity. As Shakespeare himself said, "love is merely a madness, and so is this production!"

Three Inch Fools - Robin Hood

The following evening, on July 1, 2023, the Three Inch Fools continue their enchanting performances with a calamitous twist on the legendary folktale of Robin Hood. Join the hapless troupe of actors as they bring their own comedic chaos to the story of Britain's beloved outlaw. Prepare for a riotous summer adventure suitable for the whole family.

Book enthusiasts will be delighted to attend the launch of "To the Call of Bugles" by local historian Bill Openshaw on August 4, 2023. The book chronicles the history of the Percy Tenantry Volunteers, a group of amateur soldiers raised by Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, to defend the North East of England during Britain's conflict with Napoleonic France. Guests can delve into this intriguing piece of military and north-east history at Alnwick Castle's Guest Hall.

On August 19, 2023, renowned historian and author Tracy Borman will grace Alnwick Castle with a book talk on her latest work, "Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I: The Mother and Daughter Who Changed History." Utilising original documents and artifacts, Borman unveils new insights into the relationship between Anne Boleyn and her daughter, Elizabeth I, shedding light on the profound influence Anne had on Elizabeth's character and reign as Queen. Join us for an evening immersed in the captivating world of these remarkable Tudor women.

To top off the summer season, the castle team are excited to offer an enchanting outdoor cinema experience with The Luna Cinema from September 1 to September 3, 2023. Film lovers can immerse themselves in the magical setting of Alnwick Castle – which was used as the location for the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – to enjoy iconic movies under the stars.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is first on September 1 followed by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on September 2 with next box office smash Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves to be shown on September 3.
