A1 in County Durham CLOSED after crash

There's big delays on a major North East route this morning after a crash.

The A1(M) Northbound is closed currently, lots of tailbacks, it's due to an accident at Junction 60 on the A689 (Bradbury).

It is believe the crash took place in the roadworks area.

Motorists are being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.

Emergency services are at the scene

UPDATE @ 9:30AM - THE ROAD REMAINS CLOSED

A Durham Police spokesperson released a statment:

"Police were called to reports of a one vehicle collision on the A1M near Junction 60 shortly before 7am this morning (January 27).

"It involved a Scania truck which is believed to have collided with a bridge.

"The driver has been taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with chest injuries."
