94yr old man robbed in Newcastle

Police are appealing for information after a 94-year-old man was targeted by a thief.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, August 9, when the pensioner arrived at his home in Holly Court in the West End of Newcastle.

He had been on the number 11 Stagecoach bus before getting off on Stamfordham Road.

A man also got off at the same stop and followed the man to his home at which point the pensioner was sprayed with tomato sauce.

The man offered to help clean it up, claiming it was an accident, at which point around £485 cash was stolen from his trouser pocket.

He then fled the scene shortly before the pensioner realised he had been the victim of a theft and contacted police.

Enquiries to identify the man responsible are on-going and police issued an appeal for witnesses shortly after the theft in question last month.

Now officers have released an image of a man they want to speak to. He was on the bus when the theft took place and so could have information that is useful to the police investigation.
