Two men have been rescued from cliffs near Whitley Bay after becoming stranded on Friday night (22nd May).

The pair were part of a larger group who got stuck around 50 feet up after exploring the local area around 9pm.

Crews from Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, Blyth Coastguard Rescue, HM Coastguard, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue and Northumbria Police were called out - around 45 people in total.

The men trapped were rescued by rope and police spoke to all of them afterwards about breaking lockdown rules.
