Armed with a brand new album and a new blonde do, The Script frontman Danny O’Donoghue proves that even after a short hiatus, the band deserve to be headlining the Metro Radio Arena for their Freedom Child tour.

Ella Eyre joined the band for their tour and aptly warmed up the crowd, with her top 10 hits Waiting All Night and Came Here For Love having the desired effect for the main event.

Emerging in the middle of the standing area to a packed out crowd and a horde of glitter cannons, they waste no time belting into Superheroes and Rock The World, before painting the whole of the arena green as they march to the stage.

With Mark Sheehan and Glen Power completing the line-up, the band put on a spectacular show. An array of glitter, lasers and a light show to rival Pink Floyd left the audience in awe, as Danny had them all in the palm of his hand, singing along to new tracks such as Rain, and to an acapella rendition of The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.

Lasers and synth aside, the band prove they haven’t changed a bit from their busking days, and strip it back to basics with an intimate performance in the crowd, dedicating 'Never Seen Anything Quite Like You' to an emotional fan.

The band’s latest album is full of political songs which touch upon some hard hitting issues Danny addresses throughout the night, from the meaning of ‘freedom,’ to helping out each other out even in the hardest of times, and finishes his empowering speech before finishing the encore with crowd favourite, Hall Of Fame.

With guitarist Mark expressing, “Only Newcastle could make a Monday seem like a Saturday night,” here’s hoping the band doesn’t hesitate to return to Newcastle!
