Our favourite spots for a romantic picnic...

Great picnic spots make great dates

Couple having a picnic

Summer is finally here which can only mean it’s time for BBQs, beer gardens, trips to the seaside and a date favourite of ours, picnics!

It’s time to get out and about and spend some quality time in the region's beauty spots.

Here are Metro Radio Dating’s favourite places...

The Angel of the North, Gateshead

It’s so unique that it’s uniqueness is hard to beat. Pitch up on the hill, at the foot of the sculpture and enjoy the spectacular views over Gateshead. While the monument is seen by more than 90,000 drivers a day, few actually stop. The Angel of the North stands 20 meters tall and is a work of art.

Marsden Bay, South Tyneside

The Marsden Grotto set in the foot of the cliffs has spectacular views. It's also a good spot to enjoy a drink and get to know one another.

Gibside, Newcastle upon Tyne

Red squirrels, red kites and rabbits – there’s plenty to see and plenty to talk about beside the River Derwent. With there is plenty of open space to roll out a rug and lots of streams to paddle in take a stroll around the orangery and down the oak-lined Long Walk where the dramatic Column of Liberty towers above the treetops at over 40 meters high.

Wherever you go, pack some yummy food, maybe some fizz to make it extra special – as well as sunscreen and a game – then let the sparks fly.
