Places everyone can enjoy

Enjoy your Easter weekend at one of our favourite places to visit here in the North East, and it won't cost you a penny!

Great North Museum Hancock, Newcastle upon Tyne

Known to many of us as the Hancock Museum, this place has been a school trip favourite but following its revamp in 2009 makes for a great day out with the family. Plenty of exhibitions to be seen here, along with a life-size T-Rex replica- plenty to occupy the children and easily accessible via pubic transport.

Jesmond Dene, Newcastle upon Tyne

Located in the heart of Newcastle, Jesmond Dene has been a go-to day out for when the sun is shining. The tarmac paths make it a great cycle for the whole family, or take a trip to Pets Corner to see the farm animals followed by a picnic on the grass.

Ouseburn Farm, Newcastle upon Tyne

With spring comes some new, rather cute arrivals to Ouseburn Farm. Your little ones will love seeing the all the farm animals and can even enjoy some arts and crafts.

Saltwell Park, Gateshead

Along with extensive parkland and woods, Saltwell Park also offers sports facilities, playing areas and an animal house; great way to keep the kids preoccupied these next few weeks.

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead

Along with regularly changing exhibitions, the Baltic has a great children’s area, allowing your little ones to get creative! A breath-taking place to visit, looking out over the River Tyne onto the Millennium Bridge.

St Mary’s Island, Whitley Bay

Cross the causeway and explore St Mary’s Island; with rock pools, clifftop grassland and a newly created wetland habitat. With a small admission price, you can also explore St Mary’s Lighthouse and climb the 137 steps!

Rising Sun Country Park, Benton

An extensive 400 acres of luscious Greenland in the heart of North Tyneside. Enjoy the park’s rich wildlife, keep an eye out for the resident stag!

Monkwearmouth Station Museum, Sunderland

A ten-minute walk from Sunderland city centre. The museum is a firm favourite with kids, who can jump behind the controls of the play train or dress up like a fireman.

Kielder Water and Forest Park, Northumberland

Extraordinary views and beautiful picnic spots, Kielder Water is truly breath-taking place! Book ahead and camp in the will for free.

Durham Cathedral

Without a doubt one of the greatest sights in the North East. Walk through the city centre and venture on up to the cathedral; donations are welcome here to keep this gorgeous place alive.
