Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones targeted by racist trolls on Twitter
Twitter has now responded.
Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones has finally had a response from Twitter's CEO after quitting the social media platform in wake of the racist abuse she has received.
Leslie endured hours of abuse on Monday which included people likening her to Harambe, the male gorilla who was shot dead at a Cincinnati zoo and other apes and monkeys.
In the middle of the barrage of abuse Leslie posted 'You have to hate yourself to putout that type of hate. I mean on my worst day I can't think of this type of hate to put out.'
The Ghostbusters' director Paul Feig also took to Twitter to support his cast member saying, 'Any personal attacks against her are attacks against us all.'
On Monday evening Leslie posted her final tweet saying, 'I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart.'
Earlier that day she had appealed to Twitter to help find the person behind the fake account saying, 'Please help me find this fake Acct posting the most awful sh*t in my name. Help!'
Yesterday, Jack - CEO and co-founder of Twitter, responded to Leslie's plea for help, asking her for a follow so he could DM the 48-year-old actress.
Twitter also released a statement about Leslie and cyber bullying saying,
'This type of abusive behavior is not permitted on Twitter, and we've taken action on many of the accounts reported to us by both Leslie and others.'
Leslie stars in the reboot of the 1980s classic Ghostbusters alongside Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon which it out now in the cinema.
