Upon hearing the news, fans of Saturday Night Takeaway have been left baffled that ITV have chosen to replace the show, which was cancelled due to Ant's suspected dangerous driving, with a film based on reckless driving on the roads.
Many people took to Twitter to express their confusion at the decision...
Instead of Saturday Night Takeaway airing at its usual time of 7pm, The Voice UK has been brought forward to 7pm, with Keith Lemon's Through The Keyhole now scheduled to air at 9pm. The ITV News will be broadcast at 10pm, shortly followed by Fast and Furious 5 at 10.15pm.
After news broke of Ant's arrest on Sunday night, ITV released an official statement confirming the 42-year-old has decided to go back into rehab to receive more treatment for his addictions.
The statement read, "Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments. He has spoken with Dec and ITV today and asked for time off for the foreseeable future.
"ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant and Dec’s team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend. We will be reviewing options for the last two episodes of the series which would not feature Ant who is taking time off to seek treatment. We very much hope that he gets the help that he needs."
Although it hasn't yet been revealed if the final two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway will air, bosses are reportedly considering both Scarlett Moffatt and Stephen Mulhern to step up and present the shows alongside Dec Donnelly.
Earlier today Dec was spotted looking glum for the first time since the news about his on-screen partner broke. The TV presenter is reportedly 'devastated' that he isn't going to be able to work with his best friend for the foreseeable future.
ITV bosses are reportedly also discussing what will happen to popular shows Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity, which are due to air later in the year.
