Size of beer garden at King's Lynn pub means landlord can't open for months
The Woolpack only has room to accommodate a few people outside
A pub landlord from King's Lynn says the size of his beer garden means he'll have to wait longer before he can open again.
Peter Napthen owns the Woolpack on Gaywood Road in King's Lynn and has been in the industry for two decades.
The Prime Minister announced on Monday that outdoor hospitality will be able to re-open from the 12th April, as long as the government's four tests are met.
But drinking indoors won't be allowed until the 17th May - more than a month after pubs with capacity to serve outside.
Peter says these rules aren't fair on venues with small outdoor spaces:
"I think what they should be doing is looking at everyone re-opening together because it's not very fair when smaller places can't open.
"You can see the size of my beer garden - I can't open because it's not big enough, so we certainly won't be opening again until we can do properly.
"They keep on about the vaccinations that are allowing all of this, but really it's the lockdown that has caused the infections to drop. And the vaccinations have only just started, we need to get that sorted before things open again.
"But when they do open, we should all be opening together. It's the only fair way."
