A supermarket in Wisbech is taking in food, clothes and toiletries this week to send to Ukraine.

The collection has been open to donations from Sunday afternoon and will be making it's way to those who need help and support, through Poland from Wednesday and Friday.

Karolina works at Food Plus Wisbech is in charge of the local effort.

She told us why she set this all up: "I'm from Poland and we've got a lot of friends there and we know they need help. There are a lot of people there like mothers and children that sometimes leave their house with nothing and that's very sad. So, we decided to do something, what we can do from our point anyhow.

"I think everyone is worrying right now about the situation because nobody knows what's going to happen. I've got family in Poland and they don't know what tomorrow will bring. War is bad, it is always bad- people suffer. So, I think that everyone is thinking it should be ended soon".

She went on to talk us through what they have and what they still need: "Clothes, toiletries, babies stuff, like nappies, tissues. We could maybe do with some duvets, because we don't have too many. Also some dry foods like some pasta or some soups would be nice".

It comes as thousands flee their homes in Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

Many have been heading for the border to Poland to find safety.
