Wisbech man jailed after assaulting partner

He also tried to get her to withdraw a complaint to police

A man who assaulted his partner in Wisbech and then tried to get her to withdraw a complaint to police has been jailed.

51 year old Steven Roweth attacked his victim on June 7 last year, grabbing her by the hair before throwing her to the floor, punching and strangling her.

On June 15 he attacked the victim for a secord time, grabbing her by the arms and punching her.

He also argued with a neighbout who tried to intervene.

On July 27 he contacted the victim, while out on bail, urging her to withdraw her complaint to police.

Roweth, of Peatlings Lane, Leverington, Wisbech, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, non-fatal strangulation and intimidating a witness.

He was jailed for two years and 10 months at Peterborough Crown Court as well as being handed a restraining order.

DC Stephanie Dunlop, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “We take reports like this incredibly seriously. Roweth’s treatment of the victim was disgusting so I’m pleased he has now faced justice for his actions.

“The victim was so relieved when I called to let her know that Roweth had pleaded guilty.

“I hope she will take some comfort at the conclusion of this court process and be able to move on with her life.”
