Public hearings on a plan to build a waste incinerator near Wisbech are due to be held later this month.

The Planning Inspectorate - which is considering the application for the Medworth area of the town - will hold 'Open Floor Hearings' on 22 and 23 of February.

If you want to speak at the hearings you have to register in advance, with registration closing at midnight on Thursday (February 9).

The plans are being opposed by a local campaign group Wisbech Without Incineration (WisWin), as well as by West Norfolk Council and councillors in neighbouring Fenland.

There are concerns about the pollution the incinerator could create, with allegations some local food processing firms would have to move if the plan were to be approved.

Leader of West Norfolk Council, Stuart Dark MBE, said: “I and other councillors have consistently stated our in-principle opposition to this scheme on the basis that there is enough capacity in the incineration supply chain."

"We, along with other councils, have ambitious plans regarding recycling and reducing waste, which will lower not increase use.

“Put simply this site is not needed, is too large and is in the wrong location.”

If you want to register to take part in the hearings, you can do so here.
