A Waveney MP says good progress needs to be made on local infrastructure projects this year to bolster the local economy
Peter Aldous' appeal comes as bridges in Yarmouth and Lowestoft are set to be finished this year, while numerous low-carbon energy projects are getting underway
"They can transform the East Anglian economy"
Mr Aldous says it's also important that low carbon energy project aren't delayed either:
"Whether it's the off-shore wind project in the North Sea, whether it's Sizewell C- which is an enormous infrastructure project which is moving forwards.
"Then there's hydrogen opportunities whether it's on the back of off-shore wind, nuclear or the gas infrastructure we've got in Bacton, north of Yarmouth."
But he also told us it's vital we don't cut corners in all this:
"We need to make sure that any impact they have on the environment is mitigated as far as possible.
"But I think we need to see progress on those projects this year because I think they can transform the East Anglian economy."
"Carrying out these projects at the current time with high inflation on raw materials and shortages of them, is a challenge.
"We need to get those projects moving forward and to get the Gull Wing bridge as close to completion by the end of 2023, as possible".
"I hope we can make progress"
Mr Aldous told us the local fishing community also needs to be better supported, as well:
"We have not made as much progress on that as I hope we could have done.
"Locally, the community interest company, REAF Renaissance of the East Anglian Fisheries, which is looking to revive the industry has now been set up.
"I hope we can make progress on that in the coming year."
