Union urges UEA management not to make staff redundant after £14m loss
It's being reported the University of East Anglia is to make a "significant number of compulsory redundancies"
A higher education union has written to senior management at UEA - urging them not lay-off staff, to help balance the books.
It's been reported that the University of East Anglia- is to make a "significant number of compulsory redundancies", after recording a £14 million loss, last year
"My hope is that we get clarity and information"
Michael Kyriacou chairs the University and College Union branch at our Uni.
"We haven't had a clear vision or a plan that's driving these redundancies. We have had several conflicting reports and we have been severed a form of information- which is good.
"But, it's really hard to say how these redundancies will affect students, certainly if they were to fall into areas there would be a disproportionate impact.
"The idea of this petition is to mitigate any job loss down to zero, but we could see some pretty serious redundancies. My hope is that we get clarity and information, so people can see a vision".
What has the UEA said about this?
A university spokesperson said:
“Information is still being put together on how UEA will achieve savings and deliver its long-term plan. A range of options for savings are being explored.
"Any compulsory redundancies will be a last resort and staff will be kept informed of the process.”
