The University of East Anglia has launched a voluntary redundancy scheme, as it aims to tackle a £30m budget black hole.
The university is aiming to cut 113 jobs, or around 3% of its total staff count of over 3,700.
However local MP Clive Lewis has previously claimed job cuts could go much further, with up to 30% of staff at risk.
The institution faces a deficit of up to £30m this financial year. The redundancy scheme is open to both academic and non-academic staff.
Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Christine Bovis-Cnossen, said:
“We continue to recognise that this is a difficult time for our UEA community, but steps need to be taken to ensure that we are on a secure financial footing.
“Compulsory redundances still remain our last resort and the aim will be to achieve the proposed reduction of staff numbers through a targeted voluntary redundancy scheme and redeployment opportunities.”
Unions representing staff at the UEA have previously threatened strike action if jobs are cut.
