University of East Anglia to hold cost saving talks with trade unions
Cost saving measures were announced by the Norwich-based university earlier this year
Trade unions are going to meet with the University of East Anglia to discuss major cost saving plans.
The two sides are looking into avoiding compulsory redundancies, which the Norwich based university says are a last resort.
UEA announced earlier this year that a number of cost saving measures were being offered to staff to address an additional budget deficit of up to ÂŁ30 million for 2023/24.
So far this year a Voluntary Severance scheme has already saved in excess of ÂŁ6m. It gives staff the option to request to leave the university.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Christine Bovis-Cnossen said:
“We recognise that this is a difficult time for our staff, students and the whole UEA community.
“We are committed to keeping our staff and students informed as we work to secure our future financial sustainability and reiterate that compulsory redundancies will be a last resort.”
